The Right Way Baseball Academy 7U dominates in first tournament
The Right Way Baseball Academy (TRWBA) 7U dominated in their first tournament appearance of the season. Manager Fabian Harper and coaches came into this 2020 season with high expectations for both 7U and 8U teams, and the 7U team did not disappoint in their first outing. The 7U team finished the day winning the gold bracket championship of the BPA 20th Anniversary Kickoff Season tournament in Fultondale, Alabama.
Game 1 – Pool Play – Vs Hueytown Hitmen (AL): In the first game of the day, TRWBA squared off with the Hueytown Hitmen in pool play game number one. Led by the bats of Braylen Lewis, Jasper Evans Jr., Boone Walker and JJ Brooks, the TRWBA jumped out to a quick lead. After shaking off the rust on defense, Carrington Foster, Cruz Reed, JJ Saunders and Braylen Jenkins helped TRWBA close out the Hitmen from a defensive standpoint. The final score was 19-10 in favor of TRWBA.
Game 2 – Pool Play – Vs Alabama 9Spikes (AL): Pool play game number two, TRWBA faced off with Alabama 9Spikes. TRWBA jumped on the 9Spikes right away due to the bats of JJ Saunders, Boone Walker, and Major Williams. Ethan Lumpkin, Mason Hairston, and Khayden DeGraffenried added much needed hits and runs as well. Defensively, Jaidyn Lee, Cruz Reed, and Braylen Jenkins helped TRWBA hold the 9Spikes to 2 points the entire game. The final score was 17-2 in favor of TRWBA.
Game 1 –Bracket Play (Gold) – Vs Diamond Kings (AL): TRWBA went into bracket play as the number one seed facing the Diamond Kings, a highly respected baseball program in the Birmingham area. The Diamond Kings jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Manager Fabian Harper called the team together to regroup after the first inning and TRWBA didn’t look back. Behind the bats of Major Williams, Braylen Jenkins, Jasper Evans Jr., Jaidyn Lee and Cruz Reed, TRWBA dominated the rest of the game. Mason Hairston and Braylon Leonard were key pinch runners in the win as well. Defensively, JJ Brooks, Braylen Lewis, and Major Williams played lights out defense. The final score was 14-6 in favor of TRWBA, which earned the team a birth to the championship game.
Championship Game – Bracket Play (Gold) – Vs NP FUTURE (GA): TRWBA went into the championship game facing NP FUTURE, a Georgia team that was looking to compete at a high level in Alabama. Before the game, Coach Steward, Coach Andrews, and Coach Campbell challenged the team to shut out NP FUTURE. The 7U team responded and didn’t disappoint their coaches. Led by the consistent bats of the entire team, TRWBA jumped ahead early on NP Future and didn’t look back. Defensively, the entire team pulled together and shut out the NP Future, making a statement to all of the 7U teams in the nation. The final score was 13-0 in favor of TRWBA, winning the tournaments gold bracket championship.
TRWBA finished the day with 18 runs allowed and 63 runs scored. After the game, Manager Fabian Harper reflected on the day. “Today, 7U came out and gave their best effort. Much respect and gratitude goes out to the teams we played. Everyone played hard and showed great passion for the game of baseball. As for us, I am proud of our guys on how they came out and dominated the way they did. Even though we had a great day, we still have a long way to go to improve and to get better. We will continue to put in work, put our best foot forward, and play the game of baseball The Right Way”.
